Technology: TYPHOON RESISTANT GFRP POLES

As a part of rebuilding its power transmission utility poles along 20 kilometers of coastline exposed to grade 12 and grade 13 typhoons, China Southern Power Grid Company has replaced conventional, steel-reinforced concrete poles with composite poles which are over 80 percent lighter than steel ones having a service life of up to 8 decades.

Here's an interesting development - read in page no 6 of below link, which provides insights into a new and emerging GFRP technology enabling stronger and durable power transmission utility poles.
