TruPave®: A solution for cracked roads

29/01/2018

To ease traffic movement, GVK Jaipur Expressway Private Limited (GJEPL) / L&T ECC Division built the 542.4-km six-lane Jaipur Kishangarh Expressway in Rajasthan under the flagship of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP).

Built in 2002-2003, the expressway showed extensive rutting and shoving due to heavy laden vehicles and its static loads at approach roads of Jaipur toll plaza. GVK / L&T had sought advise from Osnar Chemical for a quick solution. Osnar recommended the use of TruPave® as an interlayer between DBM and overlay with polymer modified bituminous concrete. This suggestion was accepted and the approach stretch to toll plazas was constructed. The new overlay of 50 mm was carried out using TruPave® geo synthetic as an interlayer between DBM and BC. BCEOM Consultants were the consultant.

During the overlay in 2009-2010, there was a requirement of strengthening the pavement with a geofabric. Glass fibre geogrid and TruPave® were tried out and GVK then decided to complete its work with TruPave® due to the easier handling characteristics. All cracked portions were covered with the TruPave®, prior to overlay with polymer modified bituminous concrete. The total quantity of TruPave® used in 2005 was 5,000 sq m and by 2010 it was increased to 25,000 sq m. The overlay with TruPave® as an interlayer has performed well till date.
